How Are Your Choices Changing?

Today, on the anniversary of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, it also reached a new first - the first time the Dow has fallen significantly for six days in a row.

We all know that the economy is in a crisis, and that we have some hurdles to overcome.  I feel like everything I read in the paper has to do with what the banks are doing, what government is doing, where the money is going.

I thought to myself - what are the people doing?  How are people reacting to this situation?  What is this situation telling them, and how have they altered their lifestyle and choices based on what is happening?  What will they give up, and what will they decide they can’t live without??

For me, I am doing the following things:

  • Considered buying stock (GMC stock hasn’t been this low since the 1950’s)
  • Focusing on paying off debt
  • Closely watching my spending to track it
  • Cutting back on entertainment (eating out, drinks, travel)
  • Learning to sew
  • Finding alternate methods of entertainment
    • Dance classes
    • Community gatherings
    • Friend gatherings in potluck style
    • Cooking and hobbies

So, I’d like to know - what are you doing in this economic situation?  What is your plan?
